Bug Customizing UNIX

Hello i'm just wondering how to customize the color of unix's (or SSH) background, cursor, and letter?

What is your system? What is your shell? What is your terminal?

My system is windows 7 the shell is SSH secure shell client the terminal type i am using is a laptop

You need to be very specific.

If you're launching an ssh client, see your client's documentation for it's support for ANSI color codes, or set the defaults in it's preferences.

What client (exactly) do you use, and what type of system(s) are you connecting to? What shell do you use on the remote end?

There's the terminal emulator options, and the remote end can influence things if you have a terminal it knows about (termcap.)

For example, you can set default fore/background color locally, but on the remote side you might be able to run 'ls --color-tty' to colorize the output of that specific command.
