Compare 2 timestamps
Hi,
i have current timestamp, lets say "12:02:45" in an variable (var1) and another timestamp "08:30:00" fetched from table in another variable2 (var2).

How do i compare 2 timestamps in unix shell scripting.

if var 1 > var 2 then echo message.

Are the two timestamps in one same day?You can convert from time string to seconds(starts from 1970/1/1) by date,such as
Code:
val1=`date --date="12:02:45" +%s`
val2=`date --date="08:30:00" +%s`
[ $val1 -gt $val2 ] && echo "val1 is latter"

# 3

the above code is not working. getting "Not a recognized flag " error.
My var1=`date +"%H:%M:%S"`
var2=08:30:00 ( fetched from DB)

I'm not sure this is useful for you.
With find command you have an option -newer.

-newer file --- File was modified more recently than file
You can use touch command and create a file with a specified time stamp. Later you can compare and make use of the result.
