Question Send mail when user logs in.
Hi All,
I have a specific requirement hope you guys can help me resolve this problem.


I want to send an email when a specific user logs in..
Eg: My User ID on the Unix box is VENKYA when I log into the System can we send a mail that I logged in.

I am on a Sun Solaris Server.

All your ideas are greatly appreaciated.

I have one idea, not sure how good or bad it is though.

You could edit the system-wide login scripts (like /etc/profile for ksh) to send an email. If you need it for just one user you could add a line or two that checks the userid and sends the mail only if the id matches.

You could edit the individual user's profile, but if they don't like that email being sent they have the ability to change it. Not sure if that would be a problem for your situation.

in the users .profile file

put the following entry the users ~/.profile file

mail root@yourdomain.com << EOF
From: system A
To: venkyA@yourdomain.com
subject: user login
user $LOGNAME has logged in on `hostname`

EOF
