Help with sleep command

sleep 10[m] &[1][2][3][4][5]

Is this the write line of command to suspend 5 jobs for 10 minutes

Yes it is, but remember the sleep command goes by seconds, so for each minute multiple by 60. Also if you want multiple commands to sleep for that long you will have to group your commands. For example, sleep 60 (ls; pwd; who)

You need the pids (process identifiers) of your 5 jobs that are running in the background, say pid1 .. pid5. To suspend them for 10 minutes do something like this:
Code:
kill -STOP pid1 pid2 pid3 pid4 pid5
sleep 600
kill -CONT pid1 pid2 pid3 pid4 pid5

Short example of how to get your pid jobs
Code:
your_job1 &
pid1=$!

your_job2 &
pid2=$!

your_job3 &
pid3=$!

Depending on what you want to achieve, you can then wait for them to finish
Code:
wait $pid1 $pid2 $pid3
...

or suspend them just like Scruti mentionned it

Code:
kill -STOP $pid1 $pid2 $pid3
sleep 600
kill -CONT $pid1 $pid2 $pid3

thank you guys... but all the commands are working in foreground

do you have some available windows or are all your terminal windows used by these foreground jobs ?

@OP, that doesn't matter you just need to get the the pids, e.g. through ps
