Find command

I'm using the Find command to search a folder and find files that are newer than a particular date/time and add them to a Tar file:

Code:
find . -type f -newer 201010181131 -exec tar -rvf myTarFile '{}' \;

However, I need to either exclude or remove files with the extensions of .sas or .fmb. So I'd like to know...

1) Can I alter the Find command to find all files except those with the extension of .sas and .fmb?

2) Or can I alter the Tar command to exclude taring files with the extension of .sas and .fmb?

3) Or at a later time in a separate command, is there a way to remove/delete files with a .sas or .fmb extension from the Tar file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tend to avoid find -exec, as it has no economy of scale. Can one run of tar take in a list of files to revise? Yes! It turns out tar u can even decide what to tar for you, leaving old stuff intact, but warns u is slow! With directory names, tar recurses subtrees. Reading 'man tar' brings the sound of tape leaders rattling in vacuum chanbers to mind! Smilie

Here is a little script to find the files and revise 101 at a time, usng xargs to pile them onto the end. The number 101 is magic I learned at AT&T: it ensures you get 99+% of any economy of scale compared to one at a time, but does not go crazy and ruin locality of reference chasing fractions of a percent!

Code:
$ find . . . -type f -newer marker_file ! -name '*.sas' ! -name '*.fmb' | xargs -n 101 tar rf archive_file
$

Of course, if your file is a real tape drive, you might want to do all at once, command line length permitting!
Code:
$ tar rf archive_file $(
 find . . . -type f -newer marker_file ! -name '*.sas' ! -name '*.fmb'
 )
$
