sync password

hi guys

I have multiples linux servers Centos 5.3

the idea is to create a mechanism that when users change his password that new password will change on all linux boxes....

do you have any experience on this?
I know there are scripts to change password for a user but mine is whenever a user wants to change his password he does it and all the boxes get that change....

I thought about scp /etc/passwd but some think it is dangerous

other thread
IT Resource Center forums - sync password between 2 servers

thanks a lot

any other idea

Like the other thread says, if you don't want to copy files around, you'll need a centralized infrastructure like NIS or LDAP.

and I strongly recommend not using NIS. LDAP is the way to go!!

ok the point is NIS or LDAP will take some time....
If I'd choose scp only /etd/passwd and /etc/shadow would be the files to sync?

Personally I would not scp the /etc/passwd /etc/shadow files directly. there is to much that can go wrong. Also do you really want the same root passwords on all of the systems? Either write a custom script using a utility like chpasswd(8) or implement a centralized system like LDAP. How many servers are there?

basically this is not for root it is for other users....

they are 8 servers....but my customer asked to implement a script which is a menu and that menu has to include something like

- Change password Option

and voila that should change the password for that user on all 8 servers

you do realize that if you copy /etc/shadow from one server to the next that the root password will now be the same? Are the same exact users on all servers?

Code:
LDAP=voila
