Check for network issues

Hi all,

How do i check for network issues on a server (solaris & linux) - interms of connectivity, collision, congestion, whatever that's impacting the connection to/from the server? Please advise. Thanks. Smilie

Usually ifconfig <interface> shows lot of details like dropped pkts, collisions etc. Do you need even more details ?

it depends on what your testing for but check out these commands. ping, traceroute, netstat, route, snoop(solaris), ndd(solaris), tcpdump, wireshark

Hi all,

say in this example of a ifconfig -a.
Code:
ce1: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
        inet 147.184.5.172 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 147.184.5.255
        ether 0:3:ba:ac:d1:9c

at times i do receive the output without the RUNNING word . what does this mean?
does indicate a network collision?

what is network collision - two or more tcp/udp connection trying to access the same network interface? say in this case ce1 ?
