Searching the date pattern in a file

Hi,

I would like to search the pattern based on the date like "2010/08/15". I tried using / in the file giving /<<pattern>>. when i tried this it turns to /2010/+8, but not going to the pattern what ever i want.

This is how the data in the file.

Code:
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/05/26 13:30:33 | processing file:body.xsl (null)...

Please advice.

Many thanks.

If this is not what you're looking for, elaborate your question:
Code:
grep '2010/05/26' file

# 3
Old 08-20-2010
I would like to search the pattern in the file itself, not from the command prompt.

After opening the file ( vi filename ), we can check it with "/<<pattern>>" in vi, i want to know how to search the date pattern like this.
# 4
Old 08-20-2010
In vi that would be "/20[0-9][0-9]\/[0-9][0-9]\/[0-9][0-9]"
# 5
Old 08-20-2010
Simple.. /2010\/05\/26
