Re: backup unix files from a windows machine

Try using a remote desktop system to gain access into your unix box and from there do a backup. You can use a remote desktop system such as VNC to do it. acctually i just remeber VNC right now but i think you can find another one that will support multiple OS.

Another way is to learn the commands to backup from the command line and then use telnet that will grant you access to the unix machine's terminal.

Don't use telnet. Use SSH instead, since it encrypts your session, password and all.

SSH is not available in windows But Telnet is.

You could also look into cygwin.

It'll let you do lots of UNIX things in windows.

putty is your friend. That's my SSH Win32 client.

There is also a Win32 port of sshd available as well.
