Can anybody tell me that whether the AS/400 is an "operating system"
or a "Server" ?

AS/400 (or iSeries or (Power)System i) is the hardware running OS/400 (or i5/OS or IBM i) as operating system,
where Power System (System i) is the current name for AS/400 and IBM i is the current name for OS/400.

but still i am confused.....see i mean to say.....is it an OS like Linux / Windows or we use this just making use as a Server.....

In terms of what it is, namely operating system, OS/400 is a operating system just like UNIX, Linux and Windows, but it is not available on personal computers, because it requires appropriate hardware (AS/400), thus it can (and is?) only used as server. Apart from expensive hardware and licences AFAIK there is no X-Server or the like in OS/400, this is probably another reason why it's not that popular by end users/consumers. Hope this description is more clear.

AS/400 is a server. It is not an Operating System.

An operating system is a program. A server is a chunk of plastic, silicon, and metal.
