Best graphical editor?

I am writing most of my scripts in the vi editor (OS is AIX) at present. Just trying to see if any of you would recommend some graphical editor that supports syntax highlighting (the editor has to run on AIX).

I have to log in to the UNIX server from a PC (using Xming and Putty), so it has to be something that is pretty resposive and lightweight.

In addition to shell scripting, I'll also end up writing some SQL and PL/SQL.

Thanks in advance!!

vim + GTK+ = gvim
Available for almost any OS.

I already have vim installed on the server. How do I get the gvim executable. Do I need to compile something on AIX to build it?

I use TextWrangler, which is a local, feature rich program (and free), that uses secure FTP to sync with the remote server. Unfortunately,TextWrangler only runs on OSX.

Hi,
I have always loved NEdit for it's richness of features such as syntax high lighting, column editing, macros, and external command integration. It may feel a bit dated for some (Motif-based) but there are NO graphical editors (short of complete IDEs) I've seen in either Qt or GTK that comes even close. I've used it on Solaris, Linux and AIX and I even use it locally under Cygwin/Xming/Windows, even though there are a lot more similar competent editors on that platform.

NEdit (NEdit - the multi-purpose X Window System editor) rocks. I can heartily recommend it.

Best regards,
Lakris

(No flame war intended!)

Please keep this discussion related to graphical editors.

We have plenty of discussions and praise for non-graphical editors (text editors) in these forums. This is a discussion about graphical editors only.
