Which kind of UNIX to major investment banks use?

Hi, I would like to know what kind of UNIX major investment banks tend to use? I want to try to get a job with one of these places. By major, I mean big companies like Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, etc. Thanks.

Hi.

I don't know (so I can't say!), but I'm guessing they all probably use SAP and Oracle - which are not UNIX's - but slightly more mission-critical!

If I was an investment bank, I'd probably use Solaris. But I'm sure many use AIX or HP-UX.

Why do you ask?

Thanks for the response. I ask because I want to know what I should study/practice to eventually get a job at one of these places.

Most such firms have a "Careers" link on their web sites. Why not have a look around there to see what vacancies they have, and what skills they require?

Yeah, I am going to look at the career sections on their websites - as well as job website ads and see what they ask for. I just thought I would also ask here in case anybody here has worked at / works at such a place. Thanks.

Well, although not the same as an investment bank, I work for an insurance company, and we use AIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, Windows servers, etc.

Mainly we use AIX, but our most important stuff (DNS, LDAP, ...) is on Solaris.

I'm guessing that we're not alone (in that we don't have a unified platform). And I'm also guessing that what's good for JP Morgan might not be good for Citigroup. And unless we have someone here who has worked for all of them, you're best bet is not to hedge your bets on any of them.
