sed won't work

Hi All,
can anybody tell me what's wrong with this code?

Code:
# SEARCH replaced by REPLACE
#!/bin/bash
SEARCH="95$$ 0 t"
REPLACE="95$$ 1 t"
for I in `ls *000.inp | cut -c-12`;
do
    echo $I
    sed 's/$SEARCH/$REPLACE/' ${I}-000.inp > ${I}-100.inp
done

It don't replace the string although it is there!

You may want to use double quotes ...

Code:
sed "s/$SEARCH/$REPLACE/" ${I}-000.inp > ${I}-100.inp

How can you be sure that the search and replace strings are in the file?

After all:

Code:

SEARCH="95$$ 0 t"
REPLACE="95$$ 1 t"

$$ is the process ID of the current process. That could be anything.

If you meant literally two $ signs, then put the variables in single quotes.

Even i guess the problem is due to $$ in search and replace string... either escape it or as scot suggested use single quote..
