Issue on sorting

Hi,
I have a file which has data as
path/1.xml path/2.xml,...(each in separate lines)

I want to sort this file in order. It is not working when I give
"sort filename"
The number of "/" in path can vary.

Thanks,
Floyd

How can you be so sure it didnt do the sort?
Read carefully the man pages of sort again...
sort <filename> will not replace your file by a new one sith sorted lines...
clue:
Quote:
sort(1) sort(1)

-o output The argument given is the name of an output file to
use instead of the standard output. This file can be
the same as one of the input files.
Where do you think the sort went in your command?
