Problem using VSFTPD

Hello,

When my fellow employees loggin to the FTP server they have no problems if they use FTP clients.

When they try and access the FTP site using their browsers using ftp://<domain> name all they get is a pub directory which is empty. They are not even prompted for loggin.

How to fix this problem?

Browsers, by default, try to login as an anonymous user. You can force authentication by disabling anonymous access, or tell the browser explicitly to authenticate as another user by using the URI ftp://user@ftp-server/

vsftpd, by default, creates an anonymous download directory (on Redhat - /var/ftp/pub) when installed. Anonymous users are chrooted into /var/ftp by design for security reasons. Hence users who do an ftp://<domain> end up at /var/ftp and see the pub (/var/ftp/pub) subdirectory because they are anonymous users.

To change this behaviour edit your vsftpd.conf and add this line
Code:
anonymous_enable=NO

Then users will always be asked for their username and password when they ftp to the server via their browser.
