Combining resukts of ls commands

Hi,

I have a directory with some XML files in it. I can use wildcards to get the list of XMLs I want

say I have following XMLs in same dir
Employee1.xml
Employee2.xml
Employee3.xml
and
Salary1.xml
Salary2.xml
Salary3.xml
apart from other .txt .dat files etc

I want to write a unix command to get list of all Employee*.xml and Salary*.xml combined together.

Could someone please share the command.

Thanks

You should use wildcards

Code:
ls Employee* Salary*

Hi.

I think your answer was in the question:

Quote:
l i s t of all Employee*.xml and Salary*.xml combined together
Code:
ls Employee*.xml Salary*.xml

You can add the -1 flag to ls if you want a one-column list for better reading.

Do you mean this perhaps?
Code:
for (( i=1; i<=$(echo Employee*.xml|wc -w); i++)); do
  cat Employee$i.xml
  cat Salary$i.xml
done

Thanks All. I could get the result when I ran it on command prompt.

But I have another problem.

So assume that I get 2 files EmpCNTDelta_timestamp.xml and EmpCNTFull_timestamp.xml

I put

ls Emp*Delta*.xml Emp*Full*.xml

This command in my ETL tool failed as as there was no Delta Xml present in Dir (it would be either Delta or Full or both)

I know we can use something like [Delta|Full] kind of thing in unix and give just one argument to the ls command.

Can someone help me in creating that

something like.......but i doesnt work Smilie

ls Emp*[Full|Delta]*.xml

Thanks

How about just
Code:
ls *Delta.xml *Full.xml
