set length

As every sort file in UNIX has specified fixed length for every line.
Like
Code:
$ sort abc
2233|abc xyzw     |g.m     | sales   |12/12/12|   90000
2135|abc9022 abc|gj        |admin   |24/05/09|1200000

In above abc is a file ..and as output shown...although length of both lines are different,they are shown as they have same length..Like in Microsoft Word JUSTIFIED format...

My question is...Can we set variable length of a line to sort files??

EDIT: Use [code] and [/code] tags next time when posting code, data or logs etc.

I am not sure what you want. You can sort it and maybe reformat it with printf or awk afterwards.

Easiest is to show input and desired output and don't forget to use code tags as said.
