Imagines that the contents of the archive /tmp/trash.txt is :

See jill run
jill runs up hill
see jill fall
see jack run
jack runs up hill
see jack fall

execute :

cat /tmp/trash.txt | awk '$3 == "run" { print $0 }'

the output is :

See jill run
see jack run

If you want run this command in a various servers :

script called a.csh :

#!/bin/csh
#-------------------------------------------------------------
# Function : Run a command via remote shell in
# various hosts.
#-------------------------------------------------------------
foreach i(server_1 server_2)
echo "running in server : $i - `date`"
remsh $i 'cat /tmp/trash.txt' | awk '$3 == "run" { print $0 }'
end

run == > a.csh > output.txt

or

script called b.ksh

#!/bin/ksh
#-------------------------------------------------------------
# Function : Run a command via remote shell in
# various hosts.
#-------------------------------------------------------------
for i in `echo server_1 server_2`
do
echo "running in server : $i - `date`"
remsh $i 'cat /tmp/trash.txt' | awk '$3 == "run" { print $0 }'
done

run ==> b.ksh > output.txt

Note :

The server_1 and server_2, must allow remote access for your server.

This assumes you know the value in the last column of the lines you want to print. Not necessarily always the case. A better solution would be:

perl -ne 'print if ($. % 3 == 0)' <I>inputfile</I>
