Does locate = find? See man find you can use regular expressions in your find command

I don't understand what you mean by case insensitive locate. If you are trying to find a file at the operating system level, let's say with find. You'd either use a regular expression in the -name, or you could pipe the find to a grep that uses -i for case insensitivity.

find . -type f | grep -i somename

If I've misinterpreted your meaning, I apologize and please enlighten me.

Cheers,
Keith

linux has a command, slocate, which is supposed to be a secure version of locate. slocate has a -i option to ignore case. But I've never seen locate.

slocate is kinda like find. But it searches a database of file names rather than the file system.
