Computer can't acces ftp from my computer

can't acces ftp from my computer. It is posible my provider blocks it, but local ftp works fine. Any ideas ?

Possibly. You may also want to try FTP passive mode then.

maybe, but how to set up ftp connection. How to find out if its my problem or my provider blocks me

Are you trying to setup a ftpd server locally to access externally? Or are you just trying to ftp outbound to another computer?

Love to help, just need more precise information.

I whant to acces an ftp site
in example ftp.unix.com,
but i can't
why ?
can you tell some ideas where to look for problem ?

Since this is a UNIX forum, I'm going to take for granted that you are coming from a UNIX based OS.

You could first check to see if you can just connect to the port. For example:

$ telnet ftp.unix.com 21

Also, check you /etc/services file to ensure that you are allowing 21/tcp outbound.

You could also traceroute to see where you are getting dropped (asuming that icmp isn't dropped as well)

$ traceroute -p 21 ftp.unix.com

It would also be worthwhile to try multiple ftp sites to ensure that the one you are trying to get to isn't just down.

i get this error when i try to connect to ftp
the same error always and with many ftp sites

421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection

/etc/services looks like it :

....
ftp 21/tcp
ftp 21/udp
...
is it good ?

so
i don't know what to do but i have to get an ftp
HELP!

Hi, My current requirement is to log in ROOT to a Solaris 10 server using telnet. It is not advisable to enable telnet access but my requirement forces me to do so.
