Search string

I need to create a search string to search through 3 files in my directory called book1, book2, and book3. The search would need to look for the words "title" or "Title" in the above files. I know very little about unix but I know that you have to use some form of wildcards in the pattern and file search. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Is this what you are looking for?
Code:
grep "\<[tT]itle\>" book[123]

Or you can use -i option in grep

grep -i "title" book*

Dear Friend,

You can use the following code

Code:
egrep -i "title" book*

Another code is
Code:
find -iname "book*" -exec grep -li "title" {} \;

You can also find the string by following way.

Code:
for fname in `ls book*`
do
echo -n $s:
sed -n '/[tT]itle/p' $s
done

I wrote above script for displaying the filenames and followed by colon as grep prints.

If we don't want to print the filenames, then simply the following command is enough.

Code:
sed -n '/[tT]itle/p' book*

MySQL use grep -w

The above replies are well enough .But if you search for the word title use -w option in grep.

For example ,
You want to search the word title. But the above ways will also give you the lines which contains the word 'subtitle'.

try this ,

Code:
grep -i -w "title" book*

Thanks
