Im fairly new to unix printing and printcap files, but have been given the task of administering the print functions of a server, and I have a specific question.
We use a 3rd party pay-to-print system which references our server that hosts the print queues and printcap file for about 15 queues.
Jobs sent to a specific queue are automatically held using the ah option, then released by the 3rd party software. However, only a few of the queues are clearing out the DONE jobs after they are released and printed. There are several queues that are for high volume printing that never clear DONE print jobs, unless I manually clear them (lprm -Pprinter1 all).
My question is, should they clear automatically? or is there an option that I can include in the printcap file to do this?
Here are some examples from our printcap file with generic IP's"
In the example below, lib1 serves as a virtual queue to do load balancing for the 3rd party software. This queue DOES clear out DONE jobs very quickly and recycles jobid's very fast keeping the spool size down.
Individual printers do not clear out DONE jobs, and have to be manually cleared using LPRM. Here is an example:
Does the RW option effect this? None of them have save_when_done as an option.
Any thoughts?
-server is Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 4 for 64-bit AMD64/Intel EM64T)
I put this on the CentOS forums yesterday and it's been read 80 times, but no response..........I hope I'm not too impatient.
