splitting a zip file

Hi all,

I have a zip file of around 20GB that I am transferring via ftp.

One transfer of the file has already failed after around 15GB had been sent and I have now started the transfer again.

I was wondering if there was a utility available to split the zip file so that I could send it in smaller chunks, meaning if I have a transfer fail at any time I dont lose as much time.

I am on solaris 10 and any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

you can use the split command:
Code:
#split –bytes=1m /path/to/large/file /path/to/output/file/prefix

change the 1m into the desired filesize.

to recompone:
Code:
#cat prefix* > NEWFILENAME

If you open vi specify a path to a file that does not exist, vi will create a new, blank file at that location in the filesystem and open it.
