OVER RANGE signal on console

Hi,

I did a hard disk recovery for one of my machines from another machine. I can ftp or remote log in to it, but at the console, the monitor gives me : " OVER RANGE" signal, i know it is a video card issue, but if i did a recovery from an identical machine which can be accesed from console, why this happened? and any ideas on how to solve it?

Thanks.

your vsync and refresh settings are wrong. find the manual for you moniter which will contain the proper settings for your moniter.

hi,

where can i find such settings : vsync ...i am running SCO UNIX, at scoadmin, the video config option just makes you change the monitor and change resolution , i saw no vsync settings etc...can you pls advice where to find these settings, i can put the right ones from the other machines that are not having this problem with the same monitor.

Thank you.

those settings are in your monitors manual. it is important to get those settings right, as entering the wrong ones could damage your hardware.. however you monitor has a protection feature, hence the 'over range' message (be glad its there).

if you cant find the vsync and refresh numbers, just go very low and youll have no problem. 640x480 and like 32hz for the refresh rate should be safe.

set it very low, and work your way up from there.

are you running X? the Xf86 config file is where you can specify these settings. if your not running X and getting the out of range message on your monitor, then try changing the monitors settings if it supports that.
