scp without password - NT to UNIX

Hi guys,

I wasn't sure which thread to include this one in (unix or shell scripting) but chose here based on search results. I need to automate a process which requires the need to transfer a file from a machine running on NT to the database server on UNIX. I've found this and a number of other results giving a similar solution.

Will this solution work when networking between NT and UNIX? Thanks for any help.

If you set up ssh on windows I think yes.

Hi Zaxxon,

Apparently it copies but the file can't be located...It worked when doing unix-unix but no file when doing nt-unix.

Can't be located? What errors do you get?
Can you do a simple ssh from the windows host to the unix host?

Code:
ssh unixhostbla ls

It successfully sends the file now. It was because I didn't put the full file location in :f (C:\...). Smilie I had a scare where after emailing it myself the formatting is ruined, but after looking it is ruined in Notepad but not Wordpad. Kind of annoying as I tend to use Notepad more but its acceptable unless anybody knows a way to secure the formatting after transfering a file from NT to unix to be used in Notepad? Smilie

Edit: Nevermind I've just set the filetype to .wri and it opens wordpad by default

You can use something like dos2unix or
Code:
tr -d '\015' < dosfile > unixfile

to remove the ^M.
You can also tar the files before sending. You also might to start using another editor on Windows like gvim, notepad++, Ultraedit...

If you are copying plain old text files you could use the command: dos2unix
