unzip and change file permissions

Hi,

Is there any way to unzip a zip file and change file permissions to 777 while extracting the files. Does the file permissions on the zip file has to do anything with it(like zip read permissions only result in read uncompressed files etc.,)?

Thanks,
jp

Hi.

The permission of the zip file itself has nothing to do with the permissions of the files inside it.

And there's no way, that I can see to change permissions to 777 as you extract the files.... but if, for example, you have a compressed tar file it would be possible with something like
Code:
gunzip -c myfile.tar.gz | tar xvf - | xargs -i chmod 777 {}

Otherwise, if you're extracting the files into a specific folder you can use chmod -R 777 on that folder.

Not Really!!

It has to be a 2 step process.

Just in case you are looking to unzip a .zip file, the jar command would do it.
