Question Negative Numbers for input parameters.

Hello,

I have a command that I need to supply a negative number as a parameter; how do I do this? I have tried giving it with double quotes, "", but no avail.

Thanks,
Gussi

What error/errors are you getting when supply a negative number. I ran a simple script and here is what a have found.
Code:
$ cat ./test.sh
old="$1"
echo $old
$ ./test.sh -5
-5
$

Hi BubbaJoe,

Actually the flag is for a command that is in a shell script. It just tells me that the flag value is unrecognized and the command gets aborted.

The command is supposed to take both -ve and +ve values and works fine when the latter is supplied.

Thanks,
Gussi

It will be easy if you give the actual command.
Let us say you want to give:
Code:
myscript.sh -5

Then try:
Code:
myscript.sh -- -5

This tells the shell that what follows is not an option but a param.
