check sum error

I recently checked the output from one of my backup tapes

# tar -tvf /dev/rmt0
tar: directory checksum error (6 != 24439)

The files wont restore , what does this mean ? on aix.

Thanks

please ignore this post

I realised that the tar command is incorrect and that restore has to be used in this case .

all apologies gurus.

I do not agree ! Smilie

No, if you use tar to copy in tar should be able to copy out as well.
Just F.Y.I. a forgotten "mt rewind" can give an error like this as well.

the backup script uses "backup" command and not tar.

Thanks
