you can specify permissions to user( i.e for your own id ) , group ( for user-ids belong same group as you ) and others ... not specific to user ..

suppose your user-id is "abc" and you are part of "xyz" group.
if you give write permissions to xyz group on your HOME dir then anybody who is member of xyz group can write to your directory.

how can I specify the name of the group I want to give premissions ?

chmod g+rwx folderName

at the moment I only know how to change permissions for the current user, or the group of the current user or others.

thanks
