Bug memory pages swapped out

My unix box always experience high memory pages swapped out. This box has 8GB physical memory and the utilisation is only around 40%. What should be done to lower the memory pages swapped out problem ?

Thanks.Smilie

What specific OS do you have? How are you becoming aware of swap-outs? Please post the output of whatever command you used? Why is this a problem?

I suspect that you have page-outs confused with swap-outs. Or swap allocation confused with swap-outs. I can't image a modern OS actually swapping while over 50 % of memory is free. Smilie A few no longer swap at all.

Solaris 9. Alerts coming out from Patrol. MemPageOut.
Is this normal to have high MemPageOut surge? How many pages/sec is consider normal? current critical threshold set at anything > 600pages/sec
thanks.

Post the results of:
vmstat 1 10

but page-outs are pretty much the primary way for solaris to write stuff to disk. Does it really bother you that your system is writing stuff to disk? Do you really think your system writes stuff to disk too fast? Most people try to speed up stuff like that.
