Tools uncompress command

I am trying to install SUN explorer program on solaris:
I download the file
SUNWexplo.tar.Z
from sun.com,
ftp to /tmp
then try to uncompress it with the following command:
uncompress SUNWexplo.tar.Z

which gives the following error:
uncompress: corrupt input

I tried downloading the file a 2nd time in case it was corrupted.
Is this error due to the uncompress command or the file itself...
any ideas??!!!

thanx!!!

I've never used Solaris before so my answer will more than likely be completely wrong but.....

Under FreeBSD you use tar -zxvf <file>
Is it the same for Solaris?

mmmmm....Just might have to look into getting a copy of Solaris just to learn a bit more. Although running it on i386 architecture isn't the best I suppose.

Sorry I couldn't help.

I have encountered that problem when I ftp'd down the file in ascii format. Try pulling the file down again, this time, specify binary at the ftp prompt. Doing so fixed my issue.
