What is your operating system?

Perhaps.
Can you tell me your distribution and version ?

If you are using pulseaudio, i do not think asound.conf is necessary, sound should work out of the box.
Do you have pacmd command available ?

If you do, please provide output of :
Code:
pacmd list-sinks

Ran under user from which pulse server is running (you desktop user probably)
Perhaps that will shed some light...

Regards
Peasant.
