Did you change or mix up the files? My results with your samples in post#1 (if construct removed from END section):
Code:
Variance: -1.60071e-09
Variance: 0

Replying:

No, I didn't change anything. However, to be precise I used two new files and still got the variance.

When you run this in unix, are you getting a variance of 0?

Please test with the sample data given! Both scripts have been tested on linux and FreeBSD giving a zero variance (or the very small rounding error).

It's working!
Thank you!

But for that data provided here.

When saving this data manually and run the code for these files it works but not for the data/files which are generated from the server.

I am not able to attach those files here, Can we add files here?

Thanks

When replying to a post, "Go Advanced" and find the "manage Attachments" button to add original files. Please shrink to a reasonable size preserving the original structure.

Kidding? Pay1.csv has a different structure than File2.csv in post#1! No surprise it "doesn't work", as the field separator is ",", and without adapting the FS variable, the relevant field won't be found and the summation will fail.

Try
Code:
awk ' ... ' /tmp/Ariba1.csv FS=, /tmp/Pay1.csv
