need help with this error please !!
have NetBSD 1.5.2
I am tring to ftp to ftp.netbsd.org and get this error

no address associated with hostname

how do i fix this it happens when i try to ftp anywhere

please help me

if you're typing

ftp ftp.netbsd.org

I know in SCO you need to have to have the name & ip address in /etc/hosts

It looks like a problem with DNS.

1. Can you ping ftp.netbsd.org?
2. Can you do a nslookup of ftp.netbsd.org?

% ping ftp.netbsd.org
ftp.netbsd.org is alive
% nslookup ftp.netbsd.org
Server: some1.mycom.com
Address: 10.10.1.2

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: ftp.netbsd.org
Address: 204.152.184.75

Can you telnet or open web pages to other Internet sites or is this just an FTP problem?

DNS problem
You can use nslookup to check your DNS

>> nslookup

At the nslookup-prompt you can enter a full hostname and it resolves the IP-adres, when you enter a IP-adres its resolve the hostname.

If you do not use DNS, this can be a problem of your /etc/hosts table, or a revolving problem with e.g. NIS or NIS+
