What is everyone using as a multi-platform replacement for "sysinfo" (licensing required nowadays)?

There's nothing generic. You might want to check the Unix Rosetta Stone for info on how to explore hardware in general across many platforms. I've written my own routine (it's HUGE and messy, it's designed for our own automated inventory system) which works across Linux(all), HPUX, AIX, Solaris, Tru64/OSF1, NCR, SCO and even does VMS. I do plan to push it out to the world .... eventually... needs work (too complicated for most to setup).

You are very patient, waiting almost 3 years (since Aug 29th, 2006 16:41) for an answer.

I've run across the items below, but I haven't used them. There is also a script at Linux Post-Install procedures -- shivalik -- which may be the same as the one from novell below.

It could be useful to others if you would compare them (and others you find) and post your comments ... cheers, drl
