What product would you suggest for a hot/on-line backup
with an active oracle database ??

I've used Veritas Netbackup with great success. I highly recommend it!

backup solution

Veritas is a hands down winner.

I work for Southwestern Bell and we are going to it exclusively for all SUN and HPUX systems enterprise-wide, which is a large majority of our systems across 13 states where we have a footprint.

They also have two other great products for filesystems (file management) and volume manager (disk management).

Legato is a good product as well. They both work, if they are configured correctly, they both work well. I think it depends more on what people are more familiar with. (matter of opinion)
