LD_LIBRARY_PATH containing "."

We all know that having a "." in the env variable PATH could lead to a breach of security of the system.

What about "." in LD_LIBRARY_PATH ? Are there any downfalls to having the current directory "." in LD_LIBRARY_PATH ?

Say for example
Code:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

or
Code:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:.

I tried googling for the same. But nothing useful came out.

Thanks.

i dont find the need to have a "." in LD_LIBRARY_PATH
if it all in very rare case to have libraries in (relative specification ) current directory.
and always it is better to pad an environment variable with full file path starting from "/"

We just completed a very detailed SOX (security) audit. In general, the auditors shy away from "." in path variables, but they could not cite a specific reference for LD_LIBRARY_PATH or SHLIB_PATH creating a security breach. It's a low-leel risk.

The actual risk is low - you'd have to have a local command-line user with a library that had all of the named entry points. If the bad guy is already able to do all that he has already eaten/nuked/root-kit-ed your system long before using other means.

I'm with Matrix - just use complete path specifications.
