I am not sure if u also work with php or not. but this is very simple code that execute the above 'awk' command.

My php file (index.php) has just two statements.

This command works fine in shell.
However when I execute this command in shell through php command it produce the following error.

$php index.php
$join -t$'\t' -a1 -a2 -e- -j1 -o0,1.2,2.2 <(awk -f agg.awk f1.txt) <(awk -f agg.awk f2.txt) > outsecond.txt sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

Would u know what is the problem here.

Process substitution "<(...)" is a bash (ksh, etc) feature on certain *nix systems. You need to invoke the command line through bash -c "join ...". Of course here you would need to escape the double quotes inside. Or do bash -c '...' and replace $'\t' with "real-tab" to simplify quoting. I don't do php, but with most languages, shell commands are run through sh.
