split a video into smaller clips
Does anyone know how to split a video into smaller clips?

mp3 files have a lot of structure, so you can't just use the unix split command.

try mp3 splitter (for linux, mac and windows)
mp3 and ogg splitter - mp3splt project home page

Will this work on an AVI? I have a video file I am trying to split.

The avisplit utility should do what you want. man avisplit for more information.

Avidemux does a very good job of splitting AVI's. These are the options I used.

Video: Copy
Audio: MP3
Format AVI
Use A and B to set beginning and end.
Do not unpack AVI's. The video will get very laggy if you do that.
