Bug Zombie process

What is the overhead associated with zombie process?Is it running out of process-ID?Smilie
Since some information is stored in process table..

zombies use a process slot, almost every other resource including memory is released.
zombies are the usually result of bad programming

Kill zombies
ps -A -ostat,ppid,pid,cmd | grep -e '^[Zz]' | awk '{print "kill -9 "$2}'

I have RHES4 machine with VRTSralus - Backup Exec agent installed there and running as a service. The agent hiccups sometimes and turns into defunct state.
