Error trouble

The system reboots in single user mode
what command to use to bring the system up regularly??

I get

INIT: cannot create /var/adm/utmpx

Type control -d to proceede with a normal startup
or give root passwd for system maintaince.

either way i don't have a change and
is the gray screen.

i will appreciate your time and help
to be back to normal.

What OS and version?

Some thoughts: boot from cdrom into single user and mount the different partitions - one is probably full (the one that has /var). Since it can not write to /var/adm/utmpx (or in this case create it) the boot will hang.
