hostname in command prompt
Hello, all. Running 11.04. Is there a way that, in an ssh or telnet session, that hostname will not appear in the command prompt? Not logged in yet, so not seeking a user shell environment. I just want to see something like 'login>', not 'ubuntu login>'.

What I dont understand is where you want it NOT showing ( and is it your box name?):
Are we talking of a desktop running a linux in GUI (X) ?
If so what has the login got to do... since you should already be connected if you entered...
Or is it you just want to modify the prompt?

It is a server without a desktop. No GNOME or KDE. Just text. Currently, after bootup, the login prompt looks something like "hostname login>". As a security assessment exercise, I wish to eliminate the hostname being displayed. I hope that is a little clearer.

Could it be you are talking of the /etc/issue file? Try modifying (save a copy first...) it and see if that helps
