Laptop to laptop transfer files

Dear all,
I would like to transfer my old laptop documents/files etc to the new laptop without using any external hard disk.
Please let me know if its possible via any way.

using normal lan cable you can transfer files or through wifi, if linux use ssh to transfer file its easy. if windows easily you can share files and access file on another host, before this assign static ip example
then windows key + R type \\ it shows shared file and then copy whatever you want.

thanks for the reply..but i wonder how to assign the static IP ..

sudo ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x netmask
ifconfig eth0

you can edit

and replace ip and then restart networking
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
