Remote backup sites

Are they reliable? I have a large cache of photographic images that I have taken over many years. Would it be safe to trust Ubuntu One for example and also sync---ing for example with Firefox. Is it safe to trust these remote storage sites with contacts and other sensitive data?
Any comments and experiences please?

Can your connection even support the transfer of huge amounts of photographic data? That's been the usual decider here, since the answer is often 'no'.

Probably not, but some of these sites can supply their own software for installation and so download directly so obviating the speed problem. What are your views about Sync--ing?

I just tried a short image upload(Sync) to Ubuntu One. The speed, I calculate was around 150kbs/sec.

That is not much good

is that kilobits or kilobytes?

we would love to have 150 kilobytes upload Smilie

That's 9 megs a minute, 500 megs an hour, 12 gigs a day. How much data do you have to send?

27.3mbs sent in 3 minutes.
