i searched few threads and it says, we have to increase root size. where my root size is very less. and under root, var is there

1. i want to increase size of root
2. i have free space in other file systems
3. is it possible to increase space of root by reducing any of filesystem?

the easiest way is to dump all filesystems to a backup and resize all filesystems to your needs. after that you can restore the data to you disk. there are some tools to do something like this. you can use "ufsdump/ufsrestore" or the flasharchive "flar" command. you'll find good documentation at the sun website (Sun Microsystems Documentation).

good luck,

DN2,

Can you name those tools?

1. is it possible to take backup in the same solaris sunfire server? or i
have to use another solaris machine to take back up?

can you expand more on taking backup?
