Install Solaris 10 with an internal StorageTek SAS HBA Raid card

Hi all
i would like to ask some suggests about my next job!
I have to install a new Sun Netra T5220, with an additional internal StorageTek SAS HBA Raid.

The problem come in if every disk is now controlled by the HBA, how can I install the OS?
No disk is being detected by the OS.
SAS card detected with no issue.

Is network install the only way out?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

the only way is network installation, cause you must first
setup the logical drives on the hba. Therfore you have to
boot via network and install the drivers from the cd, which
is at the ship kit.
After building the drives you will be able to install the os.

i installed that combination two weeks ago.... you will see the disks after you've configured the raid....
you can download an install image from intel, with that liveCD you can configure your RAID-HBA using the arcconf command (or the GUI):
Sun StorageTek* SAS RAID HBA, Internal Downloads

It would be a good idea to use the latest solaris 10 10/08 update 6, this version already includes the HBA-Driver Module (aac... otherwise you will have to jumpstart that system with that specific driver, like mentioned in that documentation)

It is recommended to use the lastest firmware, i had problems with an old firmware seeing the HBA in the RAID-GUI. i also did that with the liveCD:
Code:
root@system # ls /tmp/fw
as580501.ufi as580503.ufi as580505.ufi as580507.ufi
as580502.ufi as580504.ufi as580506.ufi

root@system # arcconf ROMUPDATE all /tmp/fw/as5805
Controllers found: 1

You must restart the system for firmware updates to take effect.

Are you sure you want to continue?
Press y, then ENTER to continue or press ENTER to abort: y

Updating controller 1 firmware...Succeeded
A new software image has been applied to controller 1.

Command completed successfully.

REBOOT

root@system # arcconf GETVERSION
Controllers found: 1
Controller #1
