unable to ping a host in another domain

I have a server in it.siroe.com

I added it.siroe.com in /etc/resolv.conf.

I still can't ping the server.

any service to restart here?
any other file to edit?

Netmasks, router, ip addresses ? I guess to put it in the resolve should not be enough.
what about "tracroute -your destination server-" ?

the address is pingable when I put the IP address

also, if in nslookup if i change the dns server to another one, the host is resolved.

1] how to troubleshoot more as it seems more related to dns server
2] what is the impact of putting or removing the search domain?

We are on AIX5.2 and I have to add it to the host file in the directory etc.

You will have to add the hostname/Ip in your /etc/hosts file.
