Data Hard Error:DAT Tape Drive

Well I have just added new tape drive to my server (lto)

However I am getting few errors in using it. I have checked status with
#iostat -En : giving me few hard errors, few soft errors and execution error.
Also tape status is not visible as "no sense" its coming as "no additional sense".
I need to know how to rectify it. What to do in case of hard, soft errors.

Also, when I am using the tape, only one time stored data is accessible and new data is just replacing the older one. I have even used fsf and norewind options, but in vain.

Suggestions : most welcome.Smilie

I have got few screenshots to give more idea of this situation.

Your tape drive should be cleaned once every 25hrs. Do you follow that?
Perform some cleaning first. Detach the tape drive. If possible reboot the system. If not, attachback the tape drive and run devfsadm -C .
Mkae sure the drive is detected then you do a simple backup and restore using a NEW tape. Try this first

Use a cleaning tape, it should be provided when the tape drive is bought. Seems like you've never used it at all

Im not sure if you can find on the SUN site. Better if you could check with your endor or the sales personnel in ref to the delivery order of the tape drive during purchase.
