Solaris is like BSD or Not ?

I'm attached to a Linux system that is giving me options to use BSD formats or Unix formats. For Example ps -ax or ps ax. I need to know which is the Solaris flavor. Thanks.

ps -ax <--- x does not exist in solaris 10.

but i'm not exactly sure i understand this question. i believe solaris is bsd and system v or something like that... as far as if its bsd or unix... i would go with bsd as most commands are in the structure of ps -eaf or ls -lt. Smilie

what are you trying to do?

/usr/ucb/ps on Solaris supports the Berkeley uax style options. I believe a lot of the BSD character of SunOS was lost when it became Solaris, which is more System V like.

thanks for your responses. Here is the situation. I have an interview tomorrow and I may get questions related to the options available on a Solaris environment. I'm not sure what options I can use in Solaris. The linux system that I'm on has options for UNIX (it says no "-") and BSD (it says use the "-"). So I'm trying to understand which of these 2 is more similar to the Solaris environment. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You would typically use the ps -ef style options on Solaris.

Have you considered downloading Solaris x86 and setting up a virtual machine or something so you can play with it a bit before the interview?

ooo yes... interviews. stupid questions like that will make or break the interview. so annoying. i wish people would stop asking stupid stuff like that and ask something useful or meaningful in interviews. say "how do you set a bge interface to 100fdx?"

i'm in jersey as well. hopefully its not with anyone i know!!! good luck !!!

Solaris 2 (SunOS 5.X) was derived from SVR4 (UNIX System 5 Release 4)
