How to show memory modules on 420R

I'm trying to determine what memory modules the box has so they can be ordered from a 3rd-party source and be replaced in-house (the box is not under warranty)

I have a 420R running Solaris 9.
# uname -a
SunOS agatlsun04 5.9 Generic_118558-36 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80

Recently got a possible memory error in /var/adm/messages:
Jan 12 05:50:16 agatlsun04 SUNW,UltraSPARC-II: [ID 975943 kern.warning] WARNING:
[AFT1] Uncorrectable Memory Error on CPU1 Data access at TL=0, errID 0x001a5a03.735a3464
Jan 12 05:50:30 agatlsun04 SUNW,UltraSPARC-II: [ID 723601 kern.warning] WARNING:
[AFT1] Uncorrectable Memory Error on CPU2 Data access at TL=0, errID 0x001a5a06.c738f431

None of the commands I've used (see below) are showing me what memory modules are installed.

For this machine, what command shows the memory modules installed?

Thanks

#prtfru -l
#/usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v
#prtconf -p

.. actually, I think those are CPU cache errors, not RAM errors.
Anyway, I don't know of any command that is going to give you the part number, which is what you really need.
Now, I don't know how the moderators feel about posting links to commercial sites, so I won't post the link, but look up Memory Ten (or memoryx) .

Is the only way to get the part number is to shutdown the box and open the hood?

Hi agcodba,

You could use the utility called memconf, see link below;

UNIX memconf utility

Once you've download and installed this third party software, which should be able to identify the dimm size, than search google for the dimm size that relate to model of system your using, in this case a E420R - Ultra 80.

You should than be able to work out the part numbers of the dimms, example;

A 256MB dimm = to part number 501-4743 256MB 5V ECC 60ns DIMM, taken from link below;

Sun X7005A - Technical information / Spec sheet - Sun 501-4743

I hope this is of help.

if you are getting ECC memory errors, if it is only 1-2 or a few lines you can safely ignore it.

if you are getting reams and reams of ECC errors showing in /var/adm/messages for a few days it's time to call in the tech to change out the module.
